Yahoo!’s “The VMAs’ Most Surprising Best New Artist Snubs.”

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards are live tonight and Yahoo! have compiled a “The VMAs’ Most Surprising Best New Artist Snubs.” Avenged Sevenfold are included, not for a loss, but for their win over Rihanna, Panic! At The Disco, Chris Brown and Angels & Airwaves in 2006.

Winner: Avenged Sevenfold (2006)
In perhaps the most memorable upset in Best New Artist history, heavy
metal band Avenged Sevenfold took down Rihanna, Chris Brown, Panic! at
the Disco, Angels & Airwaves and James Blunt to scoop the title in
2006. The Californian rockers have capitalized on their loyal fan base,
selling over four million albums worldwide and taking their 2010 album
“Nightmare” to the top spot of the Billboard 200.
